The Idea That Started It All: From DJ Booth to Side Project
Years ago I was a DJ. What I missed most wasn't the mixing — it was a real feedback loop with the crowd. Reading a room from behind the decks is hard, and "everyone's on their phones anyway" felt like an opportunity rather than a problem.
So instead of just complaining about it, I started building: an app where guests could request songs, dedicate them, and interact with the DJ in real time. No grand business plan, no funding round — just an itch I wanted to scratch and a hobby I wanted back. That project became GrooveShouter, and everything that follows in this series — the infrastructure choices, the architecture mistakes, the honest failures — started with this one, unglamorous decision to just build the thing.
